The Incense Project PDF Print E-mail

The Holy Apostles Women's Ministry is presenting The Incense Project - a fun, creative, parish-wide, community-building fundraiser.

The project is best described as a silent auction with a couple of twists.  First, the items donated are gifts of time and talent - and so all individuals, even the very young and the very old - can donate.  Here are just some examples of what you could offer:

Around the house / yard:

  • Wash windows, wash and detail someone's car
  • Get a group together to clean a whole hosue, do the ironing
  • Rake someone's yard, mow their grass, or shovel snow
  • Stain a fence or deck, other yard work, any "handyman" repair work

Recreational activities:

  • If you love to hike, lead a hike; if you love to fish, take someone fishing
  • Walk someone's dog, give someone a horseback ride
  • Take someone bowling, to a SkySox Game, to a concert in the park
  • Give golf lessons, tennis lessons, how to ride a bike lessons
  • Play one-on-one basketball and throw in some tips
  • Teach and/or play a board game or card game

Specific talents:

  • Baking or cooking lessons, cake decorating; give a dessert-of-the-month
  • If you love to cook, make a complete meal; if you love to bake, make someone's favorite cookies
  • Computer lessons, digital camera lessons
  • Piano lessons, voice lessons, guitar lessons, or present a recital
  • Knit or crochet something in someone's favorite color
  • Donate time and talent specific to your occupation

Also:

  • A child could draw a picture, sing a song, do a dance, play a game, say nightly prayers for someone
  • An adult could offer to say the rosary or pray a novena

Forms detailing the gift being donated are available in the parish office.  The forms can be deposited int an Incense Project box, loated in both entrances to the church.  These boxes are wrapped with paper depicting the Magi, symbolizing that your gifts too are offered to Jesus.

A catalog of all the donations will then be made available.  Bidding will start a week later, ataking place downstairs after all the masses.  The bidding process is also a little different.  You will submit your bid into an envelope so that you cannot see what others have bid.  Bidding will begin on February 4th and will continue until the February 18th.  The auction will close with a Mardi Gras potluck the evening of the 18th.

All monies raised will go toward Holy Apostles' Youth Ministry Programs.
